The Jaguar XJ40 is a full-size luxury car produced in England (Coventry) between 1986 and 1994. It was sold as a 4-door saloon with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. It was officially unveiled in October 1986 as the all-new, second-generation XJ to replace the Series III. It is the last car independently developed by the company before its takeover by Ford.

The car was available with several engines during its production run, ranging from a 2.9-liter I6 to a 6-barrel V12. These were mated to a 4-speed aic or 5-speed manual transmission. In total, just under 210,000 examples were produced.
