The Mercedes-Benz W113 is a sporty grand tourer produced from 1963 to 1971 as a replacement for the 300 SL (W 198) and 190 SL (W 121). It was sold as a 2-door coupe and roadster with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. It was introduced to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. Nearly 49,000 examples were produced in total, of which less than 20,000 were sold in the United States.
The 280 SL was introduced in December 1967 and can be called more of a grand tourer than a sports car. It was powered by a 2.8-litre I6 engine with 168 hp (125 kW), mated to a 4-speed aic or 4/5-speed manual transmission.
