The Talbot-Lago T150-C SS is one of the most iconic pre-war cars in history. The versions with bodywork by Figoni et Falaschi are now considered the pinnacle of art deco automotive design.
The “SS” stands for Super Sport and refers to the shorter wheelbase and sportier character of the car. Under the hood is an advanced 4.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with approximately 140 horsepower, mated to a Wilson pre-selective transmission.
The biggest attraction, however, is the body itself. Figoni et Falaschi have created the iconic “Teardrop” design:
- Extremely rounded mudguards
- aerodynamic silhouette
- low cabin
- elegant chrome lines
It is this style that is still considered to be one of the most beautiful in automotive history.
This particular piece from RM Sotheby’s particularly impresses with its dark lacquer finish and perfectly flowing proportions that look elegant from every angle. The car also represents a period when luxury cars were virtually handmade and every detail was of aesthetic importance.
The T150-C SS models were also successful on the racetracks, combining performance with luxury in a way that was exceptional for the late 1930s.
