The Volvo Amazon was a mid-size car produced between 1956 and 1970. It was introduced in the United States in 1959 at the New York International Auto Show as the 122S. A total of 667,791 units were produced, 60% of which were exported and replaced by the 140 series. It was sold as a 2-door and 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon. It was powered by a 1.5-/1.8-/2-liter I4 engine and was available with a 3-/4-speed manual and 3-speed aic transmission. In 1959, Volvo became the first manufacturer in the world to offer front seat belts as standard equipment.
