The Morgan Plus 8 is a sports car produced by the British car manufacturer Morgan between 1968-2004 and 2012-2018. Its immediate and enduring popularity is credited with saving the company and maintaining its fame over the 36 years of its production. It was sold as a 2-door roadster with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine.
The prototype Plus 8 was based on the chassis from the Plus 4, which had been modified to accept the 3.5-litre alloy block Rover V8 purchased from GM-Buick in 1967. The original Plus 8 engines were Rovers V8s, which became available when fitted to the P5B saloon. Morgan was the first of the line of sports car manufacturers to use this engine. The car was available over the years with 3.5-litre, 3.9-litre and 4.6-litre versions of the Rover engine, which were initially mated to a 4-speed and later a 5-speed manual gearbox.
