The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is a sporty grand tourer produced in West Germany from 1954 to 1963. It was sold as a 2-door coupe (1954-1957) and roadster (1957-1963) with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in front. It is based on a 1957 race car (W194) and fitted with a mechanical direct fuel injection system. The SL in the name stands for “super lightweight”, which is achieved through lightweight racing construction. A total of 3258 examples were produced.

The car is powered by a water-cooled, 3-litre I6 engine with maximum output of 240 hp (179 kW) mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. It could reach speeds of 263 km/h, making it the fastest production car of its time.
