The Ford Escort is a small family car produced in six generations between 1955 and 2002. The first and second generations produced in 1968-1980 had rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the front. The third and fourth generations, produced between 1980 and 1992, had front-wheel drive and the engine located in the front. Fifth and sixth generation cars were produced between 1990 and 2002 as the last generations with four-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. The Escort was replaced by the Focus, which was launched in 1998.
The Ford Escort Mk I was unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show and was produced from 1967 to 1975. It was sold as a 2- or 4-door sedan, 3-door station wagon and 2-door van. It was available with a greater variety of engines from the 0.9-liter to the 2-liter I4.
