The Renault 4 (abbreviated R4) is a small economy car produced in between 1961 and 1994. It was sold as a 2-door pickup and van. It was also available as a 5-door hatchback, making it the world’s first mass-produced hatchback. It was also the first Renault family car with front-wheel drive.

The car was available with five front-mid-mounted engines, ranging from a 0.75-liter I4 to a 1.1-liter I4, which were mated to a 3-speed or 4-speed manual transmission. In total, more than 8 million examples were produced.
