Lotus Elan is the name of two separate lines of cars that were produced by Lotus Cars. The first series of cars were produced from 1962 to 1975 and were rear-wheel drive. The second series was produced between 1989 and 1995 and was front-wheel drive.

The Lotus Elan was the first Lotus road car to feature a steel-backed chassis and a fibreglass body. It was powered by a 1.5-litre I4 engine, which was mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. Engine power ranged from 90 hp (67 kW) to 113 hp (84 kW). It had independent suspension and disc brakes on all wheels. A total of just over 12 ,000 examples were produced.
