The BMW E9 is a range of grand tourers produced in Germany between 1968 and 1975. They were sold as coupes with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the front. They were based on enlarged 4-cylinder 2000 C/Cs coupes, so that they could accommodate the 6-cylinder M30 engine, which had a displacement of between 2.5 and 3.2 litres. The bodywork was produced by Karmann. A total of 30 546 examples of the E9 were produced.
The 3.0 CS and CSi models replaced the 2800 CS in 1971. The displacement of the I6 engine was increased to 3 litres. The CS model had a power output of 180 hp (134 kW), in contrast to the CSi, which had a power output of 200 hp (149 kW) due to electronic fuel injection. There was a choice of a 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual transmission. A total of 7,935 examples of the CSi were produced.
