The Porsche 956 was a Group C sports prototype racing car, produced in 1982 for the FIA World Sports Car Championship. In 1984 it was upgraded to the 956B. In 1983, this car set a record that stood for 35 years when it did a lap (20.832 km) in 6:11.13 during qualifying for the 1000 km Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The body of the 956 was made of aluminium, which caused the car to weigh only 800 kg. It was powered by a supercharged 2.65-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 635 hp (474 kW), which was mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Only 28 examples were produced in total.
