The Mercedes-Benz W123 was a range of cars produced in between 1975 and 1986. The W123 models surpassed its predecessor (the W114) as the most successful Mercedes, a total of more than 2.6 million units were produced before production of some versions ceased. In Germany they were commonplace and used by many taxi companies.
Once the W123s reached the end of their service life, they were often shipped to Africa and third world countries where they were highly prized. Production of the W123 ended in January 1986 with the introduction of 63 final T models. The most popular models were the 240D (455,000 produced), 230E (442,000 produced) and 200D (378,000 produced). The W123 was sold as a 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, 5-door station wagon and 4-door sedan. They were available with both petrol and diesel engines.
