The Porsche 988 is a 2-door touring car produced in Germany in 1978-1995. It was originally conceived to suit the evolving automotive market. It was Porsche’s first pure road car design and was supposed to replace the Porsche 911 as the flagship model.
The car combined the handling and performance elements of a sports car with the ride, cargo space and comfort of a luxury car. It was sold as a 2+2 coupe with rear-wheel drive and a engine located in the front. The Porsche 928 was the company’s first production model with a V8 engine and the only coupe with a front-mounted engine. At its launch, it was named European Car of the Year. Five engines were available, ranging from a 4.5-litre to a 5.4-litre, mated to a 5-speed manual or 3/4-speed aic transmission.
