The Porsche 944 is a mid-level sports car produced in the years 1982-1991. The 944 had rear-wheel drive, a front-mounted engine, and the was based on the 924 platform. It was sold as a 2-door coupe and convertible with atmospheric or turbocharged engines.
In total, more than 163 ,000 examples were produced, making it Porsche’s most successful sports car until the introduction of the Boxster and 997 Carrera. After extensive modifications for the 1992 model year, Porsche was forced to rename the car the 968. The classic Porsche 944 was available with a 2.5-liter I4 engine with 160 hp (120 kW) and later with a 2.7-liter I4 engine with 163 hp (121 kW).
