The Oldsmobile Cutlass was a series of automobiles produced in 1961-1999 in six generations. When it was introduced, the Cutlass was Oldsmobile’s base model. It was introduced as the top trim level of the compact F-85 line, but later evolved into a separate series that spawned variants such as the 4-4-2 (muscle car), Cutlass Supreme, Hurst/Olds, and the Vista Cruiser wagon.
The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme had rear-wheel drive and a G-platform body. By 1984, the Supreme was known as the Calais. When the Calais name was moved to its own platform, the Supreme model was named the Cutlass Salon. In 1988, a new Supreme model with front-wheel drive was launched, and the G coupe with rear-wheel drive remained in production for one more year as the Cutlass Supreme Classic.
