The Porsche 928 is a 4-seater grand tourer produced by Germany in the years 1977 – 1995. It was sold as a 2+2 coupe with rear-wheel drive and engine located in the front. It is the company’s first production car with completely their own design, and was intended to potentially replace the Porsche 911 as the company’s flagship model. The aim of this model was to combine the driving characteristics of a sports car with the comfort of a luxury car. In 1978, the 928 won the European Car of the Year award.
The car was available with four V8 engine variants (from 4.5-litre to 5.4-litre) depending on the year of production, which were mated to a 4/5-speed manual or 3-speed aic transmission, making it the first production Porsche car with a V8 engine. The prototypes were equipped with a 5-litre version of the V8, but due to fuel consumption, the engine capacity was reduced to 4.5-litres, which also reduced the power output to 240 hp (180 kW). In total, more than 60 thousand examples were produced.
