The BMW E24 is the first generation of BMW’s sixth-generation grand tourer, which was produced in Germany from 1976 to 1989 and replaced the E9. The cars were sold as 2-door coupes with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the front. All models were powered by petrol inline 6-cylinder engines ranging from 2.8-litre to 3.5-litre. A total of 86 216 examples were produced.

The BMW M 635CSi was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983 and was the first in the M6 model range. The car was powered by a different 6-cylinder engine than the other models, initially with 282 hp (210 kW), which was increased over the years. The American version had less power. In total, only 5,855 examples were produced.
