The Lotus Esprit is a sports car produced by Lotus Cars from 1976 to 2004 in several series. It was sold as a 2-door coupe with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the rear center. The chassis of the car was later adapted and used for the DMC DeLorean. A total of 10 675 examples were produced.

The Lotus Esprit X180 was produced in between 1988 and 1994. The car was available with a 2-liter I4 engine and a 2.2-liter I4 engine with turbocharging capability. The engines were mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged version had a power output of up to 280 hp (209 kW) and could reach a speed of 257 km/h (257 mph). A total of 1672 units were produced.
