The Maserati Merak was a 2+2 sports car produced between 1972 and 1983. Part of the structure and body panels were shared with the Maserati Bora. The extra space in the cab gained by fitting a more compact drivetrain was used to create a second row of seats. A total of 1830 examples were produced. It was rear-wheel drive and the engine was also mounted at the rear. It was available with two engines, namely a 2-litre or 3-litre V6, which were mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The basic 3-litre engine had a power of 187 hp (140 kW), with which the car was able to reach a speed of 240 km/h (240 mph).
