The Datsun Z, sold as the Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan, was the first generation of the Z GT sports car produced from 1969-1978. They were meant to compete directly with established European sports cars. The styling, engineering, relatively low price and impressive performance resonated with the public, gaining positive feedback from buyers and the motoring press alike, and immediately there were long waiting lists for them. They were sold as 3-door coupes and 2+2 coupes. They were rear-wheel drive and had the engine mounted at the front.
The Datsun 280Z was produced between 1975-1978. It was powered by a 170 hp (127 kW) 2.8-litre I6 engine mated to a 4/5-speed manual or 3-speed aic transmission.
