The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is one of the rarest and most respected versions of the 964 generation. The model was developed as the homologation basis for the RSR racing versions and was mainly focused on light weight, precise steering and a pure driving experience.
Under the hood was a 3.8-liter air-cooled flat-6 that produced about 300 horsepower and was mated exclusively to a manual transmission. It was a very fast car for its time, but even more important was the driving experience itself.
The Carrera RS 3.8 was different from the regular 964:
- wider Turbo body
- distinctive rear wing
- bigger brakes
- lightweight interior
- sportier chassis
This particular piece from the RM Sotheby’s auction is particularly striking with its red paintwork, wide stance and iconic Speedline wheels, which perfectly capture the 90 Porsche. years.
One of the main reasons for the high value is the extremely low production – Porsche only produced around 55 units of the Carrera RS 3.8.
