The Ferrari 512 BB/LM is one of the most extreme racing Ferraris of the late 1970s. years. The model originated as a racing version of the Berlinetta Boxer and was developed mainly for endurance races such as Le Mans and Daytona.
Under the hood was a 5.0-liter flat-12 that produced about 480 horsepower in later versions. Ferrari also significantly reduced the car’s weight and modified the aerodynamics for high speeds on circuits.
The second generation BB/LM received:
- more aggressive aerodynamics
- large rear wing
- extended bodywork
- improved chassis and brakes
- Lucas injection
This particular piece from RM Sotheby’s particularly impresses with its racing appearance and wide stance, which looks very brutal even by today’s standards.
One of the biggest draws is the rarity – only about 25 examples of the BB/LM were made, with this particular piece being referred to as the seventh example produced.
