This 1976 Alfa Romeo 1900 Speciale is one of the most unusual Italian projects. Despite the year of production, it looks more like an elegant coachbuilt GT from the 50s than a typical 70s car. years.

The company behind the project is Autotecnica del Lario, which has created a unique body inspired by classic Italian GT models from Alfa Romeo, Touring or Zagato.

The design is based on retro proportions:

  • long hood
  • distinctive rounded mudguards
  • low roof line
  • minimalist chrome details

This particular piece from the RM Sotheby’s auction is particularly striking with its deep red lacquer and elegant proportions that look very timeless. The whole car looks more like a hand-built concept than a classic production model.

Its uniqueness is its biggest attraction – it is not a classic production Alfa Romeo, but a very specific coachbuilt project from a period when automotive design was already moving in a completely different direction.
