The Talbot-Lago T26 Record is one of the most luxurious French cars of the post-war period. The Talbot-Lago marque was renowned for its combination of performance, elegance and hand-crafted craftsmanship, rivaling brands such as Delahaye and Bugatti.
Under the hood was a 4.5-liter inline 6-cylinder that produced about 170 horsepower, a very high number for the late 1940s. The engine was mated to a Wilson pre-selective gearbox, which was one of the technically interesting solutions of its time.
The design was often the work of prestigious coachbuilders and is characterised by long proportions, prominent fenders, chrome detailing and elegant lines that today look very artistic.
This particular piece in the Cabriolet body style is particularly striking for its open body and luxurious character. The interior tends to be richly upholstered and oriented towards comfort rather than sportiness.
Talbot-Lago was also successful in motorsport – T26 models appeared in Le Mans and Formula 1, for example.
