The Bugatti Type 57 is one of the most legendary pre-war cars ever. Designed by Jean Bugatti, it represented the pinnacle of luxury, technology and elegance in the 1930s.

The 57C version was fitted with a supercharger (“C” = compressor), which boosted the power of the 3.3-litre inline 8-cylinder to around 160bhp – an extraordinary figure for the late 1930s.

Type 57 bodies came in a variety of styles and were often built by outside coachbuilders. This particular piece is created in the style of Corsica, the famous British coachbuilder who was renowned for elegant and handcrafted coachbuilt bodies.

The design is typical of pre-war luxury cars – a long bonnet, prominent fenders, chrome details and an open body that looks very refined.

This particular piece is particularly striking for its proportions and detailed workmanship, while the interior is usually luxurious with an emphasis on handmade craftsmanship.
