The Alfa Romeo Montreal was unveiled as a concept at Expo 67 in Montreal and, thanks to the positive reactions, went into series production. The production model arrived in 1970 and quickly became one of the most distinctive GTs of its time.
Under the bonnet is a 2.6-litre V8 engine based on the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 racing programme. The engine has been modified for road use and produces around 200 horsepower, allowing a top speed of around 220 km/h.
The design was created by Marcello Gandini at Studio Bertone. In particular, the slats overlapping the front lights, the distinctive front grille and the air intakes behind the side windows are characteristic, giving the car an unmistakable look.
This particular piece has gold paintwork combined with black detailing and the original wheels, highlighting its 70’s character. The interior is tuned in brown and beige tones with a wooden steering wheel, giving it a preserved and period feel.
The Montreal is also interesting because, despite its exotic engine and distinctive design, it was not commercially successful – only about 3,900 examples were built in total, making it a relatively rare car today.
