The Volkswagen Type 2, later known as the Volkswagen Transporter, is a range of light commercial vehicles produced in six generations from 1949. The cars were sold in several body styles such as the 4/5-door van and microbus, 2-door pickup and 3-door pickup. The layout of the car varied over the years of production.
Initially the engine was located at the rear and drove the rear axle, this was later changed to four-wheel drive. From 1990 the engine was located at the front and drove the front axle, this was later changed to four-wheel drive. In total, around 12 million examples were produced.
