The Saab 96 is a compact car produced in Sweden, Finland and Belgium between 1960 and 1980 as a successor to the 93. It was sold as a 2-door sedan with front-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine.

The car was initially powered by a 0.8-litre 2-stroke I3 engine with 38 hp (28 kW), which was later uprated. In addition to this variant, a 52 hp (38 kW) version was also available, used with sports models. From 1967 onwards, the company sold cars with the V4 engine with a displacement of 1.5 and 1.7 litres, depending on the year of production and country of sale. The engines were paired with a 3 or 4-speed gearbox.
