The Pontiac Firebird is an American automobile produced from 1967 to 2002 in four generations. It was designed as a pony car to compete with the Ford Mustang. It was introduced to the public in February 1967 with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine.

The first generation was produced between 1967 and 1970 and was available on the market as a 2-door coupe and convertible. The car was available with several I6 and V8 engines, which ranged in power from 165 hp (123 kW) to 345 hp (257 kW). These were mated to a 2/3-speed automatic or a 3/4-speed manual transmission. In total, more than 275,000 examples of the first generation were produced.
