The Buick Riviera is a luxury automobile produced from 1963 to 1994 in eight generations, with a break for the 1994 model year. As the company’s first entry into the personal luxury car market, the car received high praise from journalists as soon as it was introduced. In total, more than 1.1 million examples were produced.

The third generation was produced from 1971 to 1973 in the United States (Buick City). The cars were sold as a 2-door hardtop with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. They were powered by a 7.5-litre V8 engine producing 315 hp (235 kW) in the base version and 330 hp (246 kW) in the Gran Sport version. Engine power varied during production.
