The Volvo Amazon is a medium-sized family car produced in Sweden and several other countries between 1956 and 1970. It was sold as a 2 and 4 door sedan and a 5 door station wagon with rear wheel drive and the engine located in the front. In the United States, it was introduced at the New York International Auto Show as the 122S.
The car was powered by a 1.5; 1.8 or 2-litre I4 engine, which was mated to a 3/4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission. In total, more than 650,000 examples were produced, 60% of which were exported. It was replaced by the 140 series. In 1959, Volvo became the first manufacturer in the world to offer front seat belts as standard equipment.
