The Volvo PV is a series of 2-door, 4-seater cars produced in Sweden and Canada between 1944 and 1965. These cars were the result of the company’s goal at the beginning of World War II to provide a new, smaller car with good fuel economy. Their mass production was complicated by a shortage of materials, which highlighted the need for smaller cars. The first model of the series was introduced to the public in1944 topositive response, but mass production did not begin until1947. In total, exactly 440,000 examples were produced.

The PV544 was launched in 1958 with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine as a replacement for the PV444. Compared to its predecessor, it was equipped with a one-piece curved windshield andseating for 5 people. The car was initially powered by a 1.6-litre andlater from 1962 by a 1.8-litre I4 engine. These were mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.
