The Citroën GS is a small family car produced between 1970 and 1986 in two series. It was sold as a 4-door fastback, a 5-door hatchback, a 5-door estate and a 3-door van with front-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. It is known for its aerodynamic shape, fully independent brakes, self-levelling suspension and air-cooled engine.
In 1971, it was named European Car of the Year for its class-leading comfort, safety and aerodynamics. The car was available with several displacement versions of the flat 4-cylinder engine, ranging from one-litre to 1.3-litre. These were mated to a 3-speed semi-aic transmission. In total, around 2.5 million examples were produced.
