The Porsche 904 is a sports car produced in Germany between 1964 and 1965. It was legal for street traffic under road traffic laws, which allowed it to be driven not only on racetracks but also on public roads. It was sold as a 2-door coupe with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the rear center.
The car was used by the factory team in the World Sports Car Championship from 1964 to 1966. It was available with three 2-litre flat-six engines, namely a 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder version. These were mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The power output of the 4-cylinder version was around 200 hp (149 kW), allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (62 mph) in less than 6 seconds and reach speeds of up to 260 hp (260 km/h).
