The Mercedes-Benz 500K is a grand tourer produced in Germany in between 1934 and 1936. It was sold as a 2-door convertible with rear-wheel drive and engine located in the front. It was first introduced to the public at the Berlin Motor Show in 1934. Compared to the previous generation of S/SS/SSK models, it was more comfortable and better handling.
The car was powered by a turbocharged, 5-litre I8 engine with 160 hp (120 kW), mated to a 4-speed or optional 5-speed manual transmission. This allowed it to reach speeds of more than 160 km/h (160 mph) with a fuel consumption of up to 30 l/100 km (30 US mpg). Several body versions were available. The cars were equipped with safety glass, hydraulic brakes and a 12-volt electrical system. A total of 342 examples were produced.
