The Maserati Merak is a sports car produced in between 1972 and 1983. It was sold as a 2+2 2-door coupe with rear-wheel drive and the engine located in the rear centre. Together with the Bora model, it shared some of the construction and body panels. It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show and named after the star Merak, located in the constellation of the Great Bear. A total of 1830 examples were produced.

The Merak SS was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1975 as a lighter and more powerful version of the Merak. The car was powered by a 3-litre V6 engine with 217 hp (162 kW), mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It was recognizable by the black grille between the pop-up headlights. In total, around 1,000 examples of the Merak SS were produced.
