The Peugeot 205 is a small car produced by the French manufacturer between 1983 and 1999 in several versions. It was sold as a 2-door convertible, a 3- or 5-door hatchback, and a 3- or 4-door van with front-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. The 205 T16 is an exception, with four-wheel drive and the engine located in the rear center. The 205 had been in development since 1977 as the M24 project and replaced the Peugeot 104. It was named Car of the Decade in 1990 and won the Car of the Year award in 1984.
The Peugeot 205 GTI was launched in 1984 with a 1.6-litre engine and 104 hp (77 kW). In 1987 the power was increased to 115 hp (86 kW). Later, a version with a 1.9-litre engine and 126 hp (94 kW) was launched.
